Job summary:
The Post-holder will ensure that the Trust’s IT systems provide a continuous service to all departments within the Trust and associated stakeholder business.
They will be a key technical resource available within IT and as such will have technical excellence in one or more key areas, and be able to provide specialist advice and expertise.
This role requires a high level of technical competence, excellent analytical skills, an ability to convey complex technical ideas to other Trust staff and management, an ability to organise complex plans and execute them and an ability to work unsupervised without reference to a manager.
Key working relationships:
Liaise closely with other technical teams within IT to ensure that Trust and departmental objectives are met.
Assist in the management of relationships with systems suppliers, lease companies and support agencies, using them to assist in resolving any systems support issues. This will include monitoring to ensure that hardware contracts and software licenses are appropriate and up to date.
Assist and liaise with other technical teams within IT, all Trust departments and users regarding the support of IT systems and how best they can be utilised for Trust use, to ensure Trust and departmental objectives are met.
Provide cover for other members of the Systems Support team to cover periods of sickness or annual leave.
Main responsibilities:
IT Systems Support
- Provision of technical advice and support for all computer operating systems, ensuring the provision of adequate technical skills – from within the team or from contractors – to support these systems.
- Work with the IT Server and Storage Lead to ensure an effective, efficient and respected systems support service is maintained to the Trust by adhering to agreed policies, standards and procedures.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of disaster recovery arrangements and contingency planning, including testing of these arrangements.
- Support IT Operations to ensure that computer security processes and appropriate backup strategies are in place for all Trust corporate systems.
- Ensure integrity of IT server systems, application and user data (both clinical and non-clinical) by performing regular backup checks and test restores.
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line support and expertise, to Service Desk, IT Desktop, Networks, Implementation and Development and Operations staff to ensure the timely closure of Helpdesk calls.
- Provide support to the Implementation and Development team during project rollouts, planned work and moves.
- Provide account information from the domain to the Trust’s Intranet server, and provide support to the IT Intranet Manager regarding any issues caused by user accounts or domain structure.
- Create and maintain shared data and application drives on Trust servers. Provide users with a simple means of accessing this data via the Trust network.
- Provide and maintain an efficient means of user access via PC’s to the Trust network to all Trust applications. Manage accounts and access through provisioning, deprovisioning and allow users access to systems and resources required in an efficient manner.
- Participate in team, project or rollout meetings where it is deemed that, a member of Systems support, will contribute with their expertise and experience.
- Develop a good knowledge of networks and desktop technologies to support other members of the team or IT department.
- Install and configure systems and applications servers for use by the Trust using Trust and National IT security guidelines and recommendations.
- Provide 3rd line support to the Operations team as required to remedy server hardware and software problems or anomalies.
- Provide and manage an effective shared network printing solution for all Trust users including general, PAS and application printing.
IT Systems Security, risk and Clinical Governance
- Ensure that Trust IT server system software configuration and support procedures do not compromise Trust and NHS national and local IT security requirements.
- Provide 3rd line support to the Operations team to ensure that all of the Trust IT systems and infrastructure servers are protected, with anti-virus software, security and OS patches, and that this is kept up to current protection levels.
- Ensure all Trust servers are kept up to date with the latest security and OS patches.
- Ensure effective management of the Trust Internet access solution, including production of reports and resolving external web site access issues.
- Develop and maintain remote access user groups on the domain to enable third party Support Company’s access to the Trust network (using strong authentication).
- Escalate as appropriate any issues or risks within support or relating to user data or practices.
