What are the 2026 UK pharmacy supervision reforms? As of 7 January 2026, pharmacists can legally authorise registered pharmacy technicians to hand out pre-checked and bagged prescriptions during the pharmacist’s absence. By 10 December 2026, technicians will assume primary responsibility for aseptic preparation, allowing pharmacists to focus on high-acuity prescribing within Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).
