Employee Relations Manager

To work in partnership with senior managers to provide specialist, comprehensive, high-quality advice and guidance on operational HR issues in line with the latest employment law, Trust policy, and good practice. To undertake project work and deliver bespoke and corporate training programmes

Location: Cambridge 

Job Type: Temporary 

Duration of booking: Expected to last 6 months with possible extension

Proposed start date: ASAP

Pay Rates: Up to £29 per hour Umbrella or £25 per hour PAYE inclusive of holiday pay

Hours / Working Days: 37.5 hours per week / Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • ManageHR case work, advising managers on the interpretation of terms and conditions of employment, ensuring compliance with the Trust's policies and employment legislation to ensure processes are fair,equitable, promote good practice, and are free from risk of litigation.
  • Manage theER Advisorto support operational managers across a range of HR matters, for example: leave and pay arrangements, absence and performance management,disciplineand grievance matters, ensuring that they are implementing and adhering to theappropriate Trustpolicy.
  • Accompany operational managers at formal meetingsin accordance withTrust policies and procedures.
  • Support managers incomplex and/or sensitive investigationsand disciplinary cases.
  • Present management cases toAppeals panelsasrequired.
  • Develop andmaintaineffective communication processes with senior managers which actively inform and involve staff in the plans and operational activities of the Trust.
  • Develop andmaintaineffective consultation and negotiation arrangements withstaff side.
  • In partnership with senior managers and Divisional Workforce Leads, improve individual team and organisational performance in the areas ofworkforce utilisationthrough the identification and promotion of new ways of working.
  • Undertakejob evaluation and job matchingas and whenrequired.
  • Draft and reviewHR policies and proceduresrelating to the employment of staff and act as a lead on specific projects.
  • Ensure that the Trust is compliant withemployment legislationand proactivelyadvisemanagement of the implications of new legislation.
  • Support ER Advisors and Workforce administrative staff to ensure that professional excellence is achieved in HR service delivery.
  • Actively contribute to successful team working within theWorkforce Directoratethrough effective communication, shared professional development, and dissemination of best practice.
  • Design and delivercorporate and bespoke training programmes.
  • Research and provide data, statistics, and analysis to the Senior ER Manager and Divisional Workforce Leads, asrequired.
  • Use a range of support methods to develop leadership and management capabilities and competence across the Trust:
  • Coaching
  • Mentoring
  • Action learning sets
  • Team building events
  • Identification of talent management
  • Training solutions in relation to HR policies and issues (e.g., effective performance management practice)
