This Biomedical Science position is suitable for a qualified Blood Transfusion BMS Edinburgh to apply on a locum basis to start as a locum with a pay of £32 P/H.

I am currently looking to recruit an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist for a Band 6 locum position within the Blood Bank at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). This is an initial 6-month assignment, with a planned start date in November.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide support for the laboratory's day shift service, as we are currently undertaking training for a high volume of new staff. We are therefore seeking an experienced Blood Transfusion Biomedical Scientist who can contribute effectively within a busy and complex transfusion environment with minimal supervision. Once fully trained and deemed competent within the department, the successful candidate may also be required to support the out of hours roster, including:

• Back shifts
• Night shifts
• Weekend working

• Essential requirements include:

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Significant Blood Transfusion/Blood Bank experience
  • Competence in routine and urgent transfusion laboratory work
  • Ability to work independently and support service delivery within a busy laboratory environment
  • Suitability for a Band 6 role

• Previous experience using our eTraceline LIMS and Grifols blood grouping analysers would be highly advantageous, as this would minimise the training required and enable the successful candidate to support the service more quickly.
