Capital Project Manager

Purpose of the Role
To deliver strategic capital projects that support the creation of high-quality, respectful healthcare environments. The role involves full project lifecycle management, technical compliance oversight, stakeholder engagement, and driving improvement through effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle of capital construction projects using RIBA stages, from feasibility to handover.
- Act as the primary liaison for clinical, operational, and estates stakeholders to ensure their requirements are reflected in project design and delivery.
- Ensure projects meet statutory requirements including Building Regulations, Equality Act 2010, and NHS HTM/HBN guidance.
- Manage budgets, prepare business cases, and lead option appraisals to ensure projects are delivered within financial parameters.
- Procure, appoint, and oversee contractors and consultants, acting as contract administrator or client representative.
- Produce and maintain project documentation, including risk registers, programmes (using Microsoft Project), specifications, and tender documents.
- Lead on governance, reporting, lessons learned, and ensure integration of design and operational needs.
- Supervise assistant project managers and coordinate internal and external teams to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in an engineering or property-related field, or equivalent experience.
- Formal training in programme/project management (e.g., PRINCE2, MSP).
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience managing capital and construction projects within healthcare or a similarly complex, regulated environment.
- Proven track record delivering projects from inception to post-completion, including defects management.
- Hands-on experience with RIBA project stages and associated processes.
- Experience preparing feasibility studies, cost plans, and managing project risk registers.
- Proficient in reading technical drawings and using project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
- Familiarity with NHS technical guidelines (HTM/HBN) and understanding how to manage deviations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead stakeholder engagement in clinical environments and influence outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.
