About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated to join the Financial Accounts team. Reporting to the Finance Accounts Manager, you will support the delivery and financial management of the Trust's capital programme, ensuring compliance with NHS guidance and accounting standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with capital accounting experience to work within a busy NHS environment and contribute to key strategic projects across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the Trust's Fixed Asset Register, ensuring all capital additions, disposals, depreciation, impairments and revaluations are accurately recorded.
- Support the management and monitoring of the Trust's capital programme and budgets.
- Review and reconcile capital and lease control accounts.
- Assist with the maintenance of the lease register in line with IFRS 16 requirements.
- Produce monthly capital reports, forecasts and statutory returns within agreed deadlines.
- Coordinate and support Capital Planning Group meetings, including preparing reports and recording actions.
- Work closely with project managers across Estates, IT and Medical Devices to monitor capital expenditure and provide financial advice.
- Support the preparation of annual accounts disclosures relating to non-current assets and produce audit-ready working papers.
- Assist with capital business cases, investment appraisals and financial analysis.
- Liaise with auditors, external stakeholders and senior managers on capital finance matters.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with Trust policies and Standing Financial Instructions.
Essential Criteria
- Degree educated or equivalent experience.
- Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) working towards qualification.
- Significant experience in financial accounting.
- Experience of maintaining fixed asset registers and capital accounting processes.
- Knowledge of accounting standards and statutory financial reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using financial systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritise workloads, work independently and meet competing deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous NHS finance experience.
- Knowledge of NHS capital accounting and VAT requirements.
- Experience supporting business cases and capital investment appraisals.
- Experience of process improvement and implementing new procedures.
- Supervisory or coaching experience.
