Job Summary

 

The post holder will form part of the Residential Team, delivering short breaks and intensive support for children with intellectual disabilities and/or complex behavioural or health needs. The service is developmentally focused and follows best practice models. While primarily unit-based, interventions may also occur in community settings including youth groups, clubs, summer schemes, and family homes.

Duration of booking: Expected to last 3 months with possible extension

Pay Rates: Awaiting rates 

Hours / Working Days: 37.5 hours per week across working 5 days between Monday to Sunday, working hours 07:45-15:45, 15:00-23:00

Key Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures in daily practice.
  • Share responsibility for the care and supervision of young people, including assisting primary or key workers.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records of observations and assessments.
  • Maintain communication with parents/carers, schools, and professionals regarding each young person's needs.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, consultations, group discussions, and supervision.
  • Develop positive relationships with young people and serve as a role model.
  • Facilitate community integration by promoting participation in external activities.
  • Accompany young people on outings, holidays, and to places of worship or contact visits.
  • Support daily living tasks including housework, cooking, personal care, and maintenance of clothing.
  • Supervise and assist with personal shopping and domestic responsibilities within the home.
  • Participate in relevant training programs.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation and associated policies.
  • Handle public and trust fund monies with appropriate care and documentation.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.

 

Personnel Specification

 

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Experience:

 Must meet one of the following:

  • Option 1: Age 21+ NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent) At least 1 year of relevant experience with children/young adults with intellectual disabilities
  • Option 2: NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 2 in a Health and Social Care-related subject (or equivalent) At least 2 years relevant experience
  • Option 3: 4 GCSEs (A–C) including English (or equivalent) At least 3 years relevant experience

Registration:

 

  • Registered or eligible for registration with NISCC on the Social Care part of the register.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Flexible availability, including weekends
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (criteria waived if a disability prevents driving and suitable alternative transport is available)

  • Hobbies and interests suitable for a residential care environment
