Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Employee Relations Manager to lead the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused ER service. This role involves overseeing complex casework, advising managers and stakeholders on a wide range of employee relations matters, and contributing to the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that support organisational goals.
You will work collaboratively across departments, support organisational change initiatives, and play a key role in developing HR capabilities across the organisation. The role also includes coaching HR team members, maintaining strong union relationships, and helping embed a positive, performance-driven people culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice on a wide range of employee relations matters (disciplinary, grievance, sickness, performance, etc.)
- Oversee and manage complex and high-risk casework, including attendance at hearings and employment tribunals
- Review and implement HR policies and procedures in line with legislation and best practice
- Work closely with managers and stakeholders to facilitate informal resolution where appropriate
- Coach and support HR Advisors and apprentices in case management
- Develop and deliver training sessions and policy briefings
- Maintain strong relationships with trade unions and promote effective employee engagement
- Monitor and report on ER casework activity and support continuous improvement
- Support workforce change processes including TUPE, restructuring, redundancy and redeployment
- Contribute to performance reporting and service planning across the wider HR function
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Chartered CIPD membership or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR policy frameworks
- Significant experience managing complex ER cases in unionised environments
- Ability to advise senior stakeholders with confidence and clarity
- Experience in developing and implementing HR policies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience coaching or managing junior HR staff
