Job Purpose
The post holder is responsible for the development, operation, and continuous improvement of business intelligence and information systems that support internal management reporting and external statutory requirements. The role ensures that information outputs are timely, accurate, and compliant with quality, governance, and information standards, enabling effective decision-making across the Trust.
This will be achieved through the specification, design, development, testing, and deployment of data warehouse and reporting solutions, producing high-quality insight from clinical and corporate data sources.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver trusted, timely, and high-quality information to support operational, clinical, and strategic decision-making across the Trust.
- Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of the Trust’s data warehouse and business intelligence reporting solutions, primarily using Microsoft SQL Server technologies.
- Produce high-quality analysis across clinical and operational datasets to generate insight, support organisational learning, and improve service outcomes.
- Take accountability for assigned information systems, ensuring accurate data processing, integration, storage, and delivery in line with quality, governance, and statutory reporting standards.
- Provide technical leadership, specialist advice, and peer support within the Information and Performance team, deputising for senior managers as required.
- Develop, maintain, and manage key information systems and data feeds (including RiO, SystmOne, Reference Costs, and PbR), supporting Trust-wide transformation initiatives.
- Ensure robust system and process documentation, effective change control, and compliance with Trust IM&T, information governance, and NHS information standards.
- Contribute to service evaluation, quality improvement, and research initiatives while promoting safeguarding, patient safety, and high standards of governance and professional practice.
Experience
- Extensive experience delivering complex information management and business intelligence solutions.
- Proven experience integrating, managing, and reporting across multiple data sources.
- Demonstrable experience working within NHS information management environments.
- 5–6 years’ experience delivering BI and clinical systems solutions using Microsoft SQL Server technologies (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, T-SQL) and tools such as QlikView or equivalent.
- Experience producing full system lifecycle documentation, including design, testing, and operational materials.
- Experience delivering statutory, commissioning, and internal reporting requirements.
- Experience working closely with healthcare professionals.
- Experience managing or working with contractors and third-party suppliers.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
- Ability to analyse, interpret, and present complex information clearly and accurately.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft SQL Server technologies and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong documentation, planning, and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced understanding of data warehousing principles and NHS information standards.
Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification in Informatics, Information, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience in the development and management of information systems.
