Job Summary
The Service Co-ordinator provides operational leadership and day-to-day management within the Plastic Surgery Business Unit. The postholder ensures high-quality, efficient and responsive inpatient and outpatient services, delivering national constitutional standards including RTT and Cancer targets.
The role involves managing administrative teams, optimising theatre and clinic utilisation, overseeing waiting list performance (including PTL/Oncology PTL validation), and supporting the delivery of the Trust’s strategic and performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of inpatient and outpatient activity to meet local and national targets.
- Manage clinic and theatre utilisation, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
- Oversee waiting list management, risk stratification, breach management and clinical harm reviews.
- Coordinate consultant leave, extra sessions, rotas and service cover.
- Support business planning, service development, and SOP implementation.
- Respond to complaints, incidents and governance matters in line with Trust standards.
- Line manage and develop administrative staff, including recruitment, appraisal, absence management and performance review.
- Lead team meetings and promote collaborative multidisciplinary working.
- Ensure mandatory training compliance and adherence to Trust policies.
- Monitor and improve service performance against RTT18, Cancer pathways and access standards.
- Support transformation and service improvement initiatives.
- Maintain governance oversight including incidents, risks, complaints and CQC compliance.
- Manage delegated budget (up to £1,000) and ensure effective use of staffing resources, including bank staff.
- Identify cost pressures and support cost improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
- Operational management experience within healthcare
- Experience managing staff
- Detailed knowledge of RTT, Cancer pathways and waiting list management
- Advanced IT skills (Excel and patient administration systems)
- Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills
- Management qualification
- Project management experience
- Financial and benchmarking knowledge
