Based within a fantastic Specialist Paediatric Service in Newtownabbey, this position is ideal for someone who needs a new challenge and wants to take their career to the next step. The hourly pay rate for this role is £14 - £17 P/H all inclusive.

The Social Work Assistant will be primarily responsible for assisting social work managers in the provision of quality social work services to children and families. He/She will work within a Children’s Services Team and will undertake tasks allocated by the Social Work Team Manager to support social workers in the discharge of their duties. The Social Work Assistant will also be expected to ensure continuing professional development through training, supervision and learning in line with NISCC registration requirements

KEY RESULT AREAS / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Practice with Children and Families

1 Undertake work with children and/or parents/carers as directed by the Social Work Manager, Senior Social Work Practitioner or Social Worker in keeping with any support/protection/care plan and in their family support cases.

2 The SW/ SP/ SSW would hold case responsibility and the Band 4 social work assistant would be involved in and contribute to the overall assessment process commensurate with their role / responsibility. Their role will be supported through the provision of supervision and under the guidance of the case-holder. They would not hold carry a caseload independently.

3 Undertake the arrangements and/or assist with the delivery of services, assessed by social work staff as being needed to support children and families. This will include supported work with children and families. On occasion attendance and contribution to reports for Trust meetings in relation to children and families.

4 Complete delegated tasks such as co-ordinating family support, diversionary and respite services, sourcing appropriate family support services and other resources.

5 Collate essential information about children and families and report this back to the Social Worker/ Team Manager to assist in the assessment of the families’ circumstances and needs.

6 Assist children and/or parents/carers with practical tasks including transport in respect of identified appointments, delivering advice and guidance in relation to parenting tasks for example routines and boundaries, behaviour management, homecare management, budgeting and essential form filling as necessary.

7 Provide general information about services and sign-post to more appropriate services as required.

8 Assists in delivery of contact services including the supervision of contact arrangements as directed. This will include transport issues and ensuring completion of appropriate documentation

Is this you?

A suitable candidate for the role will ideally have previous experience in a similar role and love what they do. This individual is suited to someone who is a good listener, a great communicator and has a natural interest in problem-solving.
