Nurse, inventor and Your World locum, Neomi Bennett appeared on the BBC hit show, Dragons’ Den last year, where she pitched her clever solution to putting on anti-embolism stockings.
The Neo-slip is a pouch-like invention that is designed to ease the fitting of anti-embolism stockings, which is known as a challenging task. Patients wear these stockings to reduce the risk of DVT (deep vein thrombosis).
Bennett said: ‘Twenty-five thousand people die every year in the UK from preventable deep vein thrombosis, so I knew we needed a product that encourages people to use those stockings and this is how Neo-slip came about.’
After coming up with the idea back in 2011 when she was a student nurse, Bennett took Neo-slip onto Dragons’ Den with the hopes of gaining the support of an investor. However, after she was rejected on the show, Bennett went on to supply her creation to 34 hospitals and a variety of pharmacies around the UK, proving that you can be successful without the Dragons' help.
We’re thrilled for Neomi and wish her further success in the future!
