The use of medication

Your pharmacist is trained to explain your medication to you, including how to take it safely, what side-effects may occur and what to avoid when taking it.

The New Medicine Service

Have you been prescribed an anticoagulant (blood thinning medicine) or a medicine to treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes? You can now ask your pharmacist for extra help and advice; this is called the New Medicine Service (NMS). Learn more.

Repeat medication

Your pharmacy can set-up a repeat prescription for you so you don’t need to keep visiting your GP for a supply of your regular medication.

You can also ask your pharmacist for any advice on your meds, instead of arranging another trip to the surgery!

Sexual health advice

Many pharmacies now offer confidential advice on your sexual health and can dispense the morning after pill, STI tests and free condoms.

Collection of old medication

Do not throw away old medication. If you have medicine that is out of date or no longer needed, your pharmacy can dispose of it safely.

Throwing medicine in the bin or flushing it down the toilet can be harmful to the environment but a quick trip to your local pharmacy can deal with your unwanted meds.
