Job Summary:
This role supports the Head of Employee Relations in delivering a proactive, high-quality ER service. You’ll lead a team managing all non-medical employee relations cases, promoting informal resolutions, supporting line managers, and overseeing complex investigations. You’ll also produce reports, support case planning, and help drive fair, consistent HR practices across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations:
- Lead and advise on complex ER cases (grievances, disciplinaries, capabilities, etc.).
- Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and employment law.
- Oversee timely case progression and high-quality investigations.
- Liaise with trade unions, legal teams, and stakeholders as needed.
- Promote a compassionate, informal resolution approach.
Team Management:
- Line manage and develop the ER team.
- Allocate workloads and ensure performance standards.
- Monitor case quality and team output via case management systems.
Policy & Service Development:
- Draft and revise policies in line with legislation and NHS frameworks.
- Create training materials and deliver ER training to managers.
- Analyse ER data and contribute to reports, action plans, and improvements.
- Maintain ER intranet resources and ensure up-to-date guidance is accessible.
Essential Requirements:
- CIPD qualified
- Strong experience in ER within unionised environments
- Skilled in managing teams and complex investigations
- Excellent communication and data analysis abilities
Desirable:
- NHS experience, knowledge of employment law and Agenda for Change
- PRINCE2 qualification, ESR and e-DBS knowledge
